Fair Work Australia orders Pay increase to community sector workers.

We welcome the recent announcement by Fair Work Australia to grant wage increases to employees in the community sector.

For many years workers in the Community sector have been praised for their commitment and contributions to building a stronger and healthier Australian society.

It was unfortunate that this accolade did not transition to equity in the remuneration sphere when compared to similar work conducted within the Public sector or other fields of endeavour within the Australian workforce

New Ideas For Volunteering in 2012

After identifying volunteering as a hot topic in 2011, Hunter Region non-profit organisations have conceived a plan addressing matters raised at a forum hosted by Newcastle Interagency. Strategies will start to be implemented this year.

Connecting Up 2011

For those who are unfamiliar, Connecting Up is the nonprofit interactive event for learning and thinking strategically about how innovation and technology can improve our operations and outcomes.

This year’s Connecting Up conference will be held at the Crown Conference Centre, Melbourne, June 1 - 3. The conference picks up on a number of recent nonprofit sector studies and discussions on social innovation, capacity development and social enterprise. How does the use of technology overlay/ support these strategies? Technology provides new mediums to reach new audiences and provide capability for replication and growth, but it needs to be driven from a strategic viewpoint by innovators and decision makers.

National Volunteer Strategy Consultation

The Federal Government has been progressing with plans to develop a National Volunteering Strategy. This Strategy will shape the government's vision for volunteering over the next ten years. The strategy will be released to mark the 10 year anniversary of the United Nations International Year of Volunteers (IYV +10) which will be celebrated through the world in 2011.

The strategy development is now at the community consultation phase and Volunteering Australia would like to encourage you to provide comment to government on the strategy.
